RDF Production

RDF is created by processing mixed waste materials such as plastics, textiles, and other residual waste that would otherwise end up in landfills. The process typically involves sorting, shredding, and drying these materials to produce a fuel with a high calorific value. Refuse-derived fuel is widely used in energy-intensive industries, such as cement kilns and power plants, where it substitutes for traditional fossil fuels.

PEF Production

Processed-engineered fuel (PEF) is a high-quality, customised fuel derived from non-recyclable waste. It is designed for industrial applications requiring a consistent and reliable energy source. PEF production involves strictly processing waste through sorting, shredding, and refining techniques to create a homogenous fuel with a high calorific value. PEF is particularly suited for cement manufacturing, industrial heating, and power generation industries, where efficient and clean energy is critical.

SRF Production

Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF) manufacturing is critical in converting non-recyclable waste into a standardised, high-energy fuel appropriate for large-scale industrial applications. SRF is made from specifically selected waste materials, such as plastics, wood, and paper, which are treated to provide fuel with a high calorific value and low moisture content. SRF is largely employed in sectors like cement kilns, waste-to-energy plants, and district heating systems.

RDF/PEF/SRF Material Recycling Equipment

Shredder (Secondary)

The shredding (size reduction) process reduces the material stream into a size suitable for the RDF/PEF/SRF market. Generally this material has been through a primary shredder first and the inert material and PVC removed.

Screens

Screens are used to ensure the material size coming from the shredder and timber grinder/hammermill is sized correctly. The correct size material will pass through the screen while the oversize material will go over the top of the screen and be reprocessed through the shredder to ensure size consistency.

Windshifter

Windshifters are used to separate the light fraction material from the heavy fraction material in after it has been screened into its size range. The windshifter uses air flow to blow the light material away from the heavy material thus increasing the quality of the heavy material.

Optical Sorting

The optical sorter uses near-infrared (NIR) technology to determine the material type( composition of the material). It detects the material type as it passes under the NIR sensor on a high-speed conveyor and then uses air to shoot the material into the correct sorting category. In this application the optical sorter main function is to remove PVC from the material stream.

Magnets

Used to remove ferrous metals (steel) from the recycling stream. Magnets are generally positioned in multiple positions through the plant to ensure as much ferrous material is removed and recovered. The magnet lifts and transfers the ferrous material out of the material stream as it passes under the magnet.

Grinding / Hammermill

These are used for further processing the timber into either a mulch product or as processed engineered fuel (PEF). The grinder or hammermill reduces the size of timber to the required size suitable for its specific application.

Wrapping and Baling

Baling

The processed material is fed into the baler which compresses the material into solid bales of approximately 1100 x 1100 x 1100. Once baled the commodity can be stored, transported and sold to the market.

Bale Wrapping

Wraps the bale in a film plastic to protect the bales from moisture and contamination, ensuring they remain intact and in good condition until they are processed or sold.
